This series of TV/video lesson (ключ слово lesson)s and the accompanying text use real-life situations to teach ESL. Adults and young adults at the beginning levels can use this independent study (тег study) program (в другом описании program) to practice listening, speaking, reading (смотрите reading) and writing. Each of the 80 half-hour TV/video lessons (в другом описании lessons) corresponds to two work pages in the text. Lessons are group (в другом описании group)ed into 20 units (4 lessons per unit), each focusing on a different life skill. The text provides a review section at the end of each unit. Learning (в другом описании Learning) English (ключ слово English) makes it simple for students (ключ слово students) to study independently (в другом описании independently). The text uses easily understood symbols to guide the student through the lesson. In addition (ключ слово addition), the illustrations in the text mirror the visual aids used in the TV/video lesson to help students match what they are reading with what they have learned during the TV/video lesson. To facilitate self-correction, the answers to the exercises appear at the bottom of each page. Learning English is designed to allow students to learn independently. However, the addition of a teacher or tutor can make the program even more effective. Also the program is well suited for use in a multilevel classroom with one group studying Learning English independently while the teacher directs another group.
